Volunteer Experience

I think that everyone should volunteer at least once to help better the lives of others. While in school, I have had the pleasure of volunteering in my local community and in Argentina.

Victoria Soup Kitchen – Christmas Dinner Helper

For several years, my family and I volunteered on Christmas day to help serve food and presents to the less fortunate in Victoria. During a normal day, I would help organize the venue, ensure everyone got food and drink, and help pass out presents.

I grew up playing for CW RFC, starting my rugby career on the U14 team. This organization helped me grow as an athlete and as a person, leading to my appearance on regional, provincial, and national teams. So I felt I needed to give back to the club that helped shape me into the person I am today. While in high school, I committed one day every weekend to help coach U8/U10 rugby teams. I would assist in setting up drills, teaching kids the rules of the game, and coaching kids at local tournaments. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.

It only took me one semester until realized I needed a break between high school and university. However, instead of staying in town and working, I decided to get more international experience. For five months I lived down in Neuquen, Argentina, playing rugby for the local rugby club – Neuquen Rugby Club, and teaching English at St Stephen’s Institute.
